Do People Who Twitter Plan on Redecorating/Renovating More than People Who Do Not Twitter?
This was the question we asked ourselves this week. Twitter is making big news of late. With folks like Diddy and Martha Stewart on board, we asked ourselves, does it make sense to spend time tweeting? Is this population of folks more likely to buy what we're selling?
Of course, you cannot ignore the networking component of Twitter---we're so lucky to be followed by people who did not know of our awesomeness before Twitter. So by questioning the ROI that Twitter delivers, we're not discounting it---just digging into it a bit more. Every day, we turn towards San Fransisco and think happy thoughts.
So what did we find out? Statistically speaking, Twitterers are not any more likely to renovate, redecorate, buy/sell a home, or furnish than non-Twitterers. What was somewhat surprising was the number of respondents who did plan on engaging in these home-related activities in 2009: Overall, about 67% plan on engaging in these activities.
Here's the Numbers:
So as you can see, there really was no difference in plans for 2009. Just for clarity's sake, plans as laid out in the survey were "Redecorate" , "Renovate", "Buy or sell a home", or "Furnish an apartment/home".
I've attached the raw data to this post. Unfortunately, I lumped all the activities together in one field in the results, but the comments really were the most interesting part.
Comments
There were only a couple of comments about things being economically bleak this year--most comments were expansions on what their plans were. First, a few of the bleak:
"Just trying to find a job and survive" (34, Female, Buy-Sell, Suburban, I_Dont_Twitter )
"I have no plans, looks like this is going to be a bleak year for planning anything." (47, Male, None, Rural, Does not know what Twitter is) [oh dear! he should Twitter!]
While pulling these comments together, I did notice something interesting: no bleakness from Twitterers! Not really scientific, I know, but still, I think there is value in it. Have a look at what Twitterer's had to say:
"I'm looking to buy a new house in the next couple of years and the real estate agents on twitter look to be a helpful resource so I may be using twitter for that in the future." (27, Female, furnish, Rural, I_Twitter_occasion)
"I'm getting married this year and we're planning on purchasing a home for our family." (36, Female, Buy-Sell|furnish, Suburban, I_Twitter_occasion)
So in the end, we'll continue to Twitter. I'd love to survey only those who tweet---anybody know where we can find a bunch of Tweeters?
